The Home Commander (Family Leadership & Life Skills)

A family is a team — everyone has a job, a budget, and a role.

About this class

Inspired by the spirit of the BSA Family Life merit badge. Students learn that a family functions like a team — with shared responsibilities, communication, and a budget. They take on real roles at home, plan and lead a family project, and finish the course as a confident contributor instead of a passenger.

What students learn

  • What a family 'team' looks like — roles, responsibilities, and respect
  • Communication, conflict resolution, and active listening
  • Household chores and time management
  • Personal and family budgeting basics
  • Planning, shopping for, and cooking a family meal
  • Leading a family service or improvement project
  • Setting personal goals and tracking progress
  • Reflection and presenting your project to the group

What students take home

🎁

A personal Home Commander binder — budget worksheets, chore-and-goals tracker, meal plan, and the completed family-project plan they led — plus a printed certificate of completion.
