Culinary Survival (Cooking for Yourself)

Knife skills, heat control, and the confidence to feed yourself.

About this class

Real cooking skills for real life — not just recipes. Students learn the fundamentals chefs actually use, then put it all together in a 'Chopped'-style competition where they cook for their parents on the final night.

What students learn

  • Knife skills — the most important skill in the kitchen
  • Heat control: sauté, sear, simmer, boil, and roast
  • Food safety, storage, and avoiding cross-contamination
  • Building flavor: salt, fat, acid, heat
  • Pantry Challenges — making a meal from 5 random ingredients
  • Reading and scaling a recipe
  • Meal planning and smart grocery shopping
  • Final 'Chopped'-style competition cooking for parents

What students take home

🎁

Their own chef's knife in a protective sheath, a personal apron, and a printed recipe book of every dish they made during the block.
